The Power of Emeralds

Brief description

The Power of Emeralds tells a story of a seventeen year-old Monnique Gabriell who is slowly getting over the loss of her beloved mother who had been hit by a car. Eight months after the accident a new boy comes to her class and Monnique recognizes it's the driver of the car which caused her mother's death. It's hard to cope with his presence in her life.. But what if she can do it?

The characters

Monnique Gabriell - She's the main character and she's telling the whole story. The loss of her mother has affected her very much and now she's pretty introvert and sensitive. But she's also very brave.

Becky Martinez - She's Monnique's best friend and she's the light of her life, although she can be pretty offensive sometimes.

Sunbloom Ribbon - He knows he's made a mistake, but he begs Monnique to forgive him and he wants her to become his friend... or maybe even something more. He's a little too arrogant, but deep inside he's very sensitive. His eyes remind Monnique of emeralds which is the reason I called this book The Power of Emeralds.

Barbara Rolling - She's a very smart daughter of a well-known scientist and famous former model, but surprisingly she isn't popular much at school. She becomes friends with Monnique and she teaches her a lot about fashion. She's unbelievably kind and also very rich.

Lindsay - She's Monnique's aunt and she's living with her niece after her sister's death.

An excerpt of the book

I couldn't believe it. Suddenly I could imagine that I could get on well with Sunbloom. Sure, I hated him. But maybe it would do no harm to live in peace with him.

And I had to admit it he was really attractive.

"You like him."

It sounded almost like she was accusing me.

"A little," I said.

"Hm. If I had known he had this brighter side as well, I would have liked him too. Before."

What I felt deep inside of me couldn't be jealousy. It simply couldn't be. And it wasn't. Sunbloom is tabu. He's my enemy. And that's it.
